Atlanta Steemer’s Hardwood Floor Refinishing Process
1. Sand with the coarsest grit of sandpaper. Next we use a finer grit with three
passes. We also sand patches by
hand, using the same progression of coarser to finer sandpaper. Our sanding machine simultaneously vacuums
sawdust and other debris left after sanding. Once the floors have been sanded three times, they are ready to be
prepared for staining.
2. Chemical cleaning with a tack cloth is used again
to clear away finer dust particles as it prepares the wood to receive the
polyurethane.
3. Stain to match stain to existing color and apply the stain with the rags in a
circular motion as we pay particular attention to avoid any color
inconsistencies. Two applications of stain may be necessary to reach color
depth and consistency.
4. Buffing bare wood is next step to acquire a
really smooth pre-polyurethane finish.
5. Tack cloth cleaning is used again to clear away finer
dust particles as it prepares the wood to receive the polyurethane.
6. Apply the polyurethane with proper head
applicator. This prevents bubbles. Once
the recommended drying time has elapsed, we repeat the above process twice
more, making three coats of polyurethane in all.
Now your hardwood floors
should be ready to go. You should wait two days before putting down any area
rugs (or they might adhere to the floor).
