Smoke Removal
Q: What constitutes an area?
A: An area is a full set of stairs, bedroom, dining room, etc.
Q: Is ozone treatment harmful to my pets?
A: This creates an environment for... _____ your family.
Q: I don't see black soot anymore, but why do I still smell the odor of smoke. What do I
need to do the get rid of this odor?
A: Black soot is only one of three things that need to be done during the cleaning process
of smoke odor removal.
Q: The manufacturer of my carpet recommends steam cleaning. How does Flood Atlanta
Smoke Removal get the odor out of my carpets?
A: Our technicians are trained in the science of bad odor removal; it take more than just
applying chemicals.
Q: Why does berber or looped carpet cost an additional five to ten dollars per area?
A: Cleaning and speed-drying extends the cleaning time about twenty five percent.
Q: Last month, I had doggies visiting me for a week. They left wonderful impressions and
TWO HUGE stains. I've treated them with products from Home Depot and the pet store.
They don't smell anymore, but the stains keep coming back. Why?
A: When padding beneath the carpet gets wet, the carpet fibers draw (like a wick in an oil
candle) any moisture to the surface along with any soapy residues, untreated urine
crystals, old spills, etc. Our steam-cleaning process, low pressure, speed-drying, and
general enzyme service prevents the unseen from becoming seen. We guarantee it!
Q: Cat odor is the worse! My cats puke, spray, and vomit. I have a large family
gathering this year. I get most of the stains out, but the smell... oh my God! Help!
A: Stay with us on this. For the worse cat odor in carpets and the sub-floors, we use a
unique chemistry that safely and immediately eradicates (on contact) amine, marcaptan,
adrosterone, indole, skatole, metabolite, and phenol odors. How it differs: 1)
Permanent (unlike fragrances), 2) Stops remaining bacteria-produced odors (unlike
germicides), 3) Works with detergents and disinfectants (unlike enzymes), 4) Treats more
than sulfur-based odors (unlike oxidizers). Click for our guaranteed odor removal
process.

If you've had a fire in your home, you know that smoke seems to penetrate everything. Porous
materials, such as draperies, fabrics, carpeting, wood, drywall, insulation, etc., are particularly
prone to smoke odor retention. Soot (residue from the smoke) can remain on nonporous materials
such as tile, metal, stone, and plastics.
Thermal fogging can help get the trapped smoke and odor out of porous items. A thorough
scrubbing of the nonporous items--particularly in corners, nooks, and cracks--can get the odor and
soot out. Most professionals recommend using common household items, such as vinegar and
baking soda, for this part of the cleaning process because they neutralize odors. The sooner these
cleaning methods are performed, the better because the smoke odor will settle in some materials
and create the need for repeat cleanings. Some clothes, draperies, slipcovers, and other fabrics
may need to be dry cleaned or steam cleaned more than once. Furthermore, smoke and soot
contains carcinogens, which are harmful to health, so the need to clean air filters and ducts is
rather immediate and important.
Ozone treatments are perhaps the most complete treatments for smoke odor removal. Like
thermal fogging (where moisture and heat are emitted into the air to "disable" airborne smoke, ash,
and soot particles), the ozone is emitted into the air by a machine. Ozone is odor free itself, and it
disables the odorous smoke molecules rapidly.
Regardless of treatment, certain items will need to be replaced. Insulation, carpet padding,
animal bedding, and children's stuffed animals, for example, will need to be replaced. Once the
cleaning is completed and the items that need replacing are replaced, be sure to have a friend walk
through and verify the smell is gone (as you may still be prone to smelling "phantom" smells).
