Atlanta Tankless Water Heaters - Repair & Installation
|
Tankless water heaters:
Tankless water heaters, also called instantaneous, continuous flow, inline, on-demand or instant-on water
heaters, are a way to save both energy and space. When there is a demand for hot water (e.g. hot water
tap is turned in a shower, sink, or washing machine) the water flow turbine sends a signal to the control
panel. This panel looks at several different factors: incoming water temperature and desired water
temperature based on settings in the temperature controller. Depending on the calculated incoming and
desired water temperatures, the gas or electric flow into the burner assembly is modulated, and the
electronic ignition sequence begins. Water is heated to the desired temperature as it circulates through the
copper heat exchanger providing continuous hot water. When the hot water tap is shut off, the tankless
water heater shuts down and is placed in standby mode.
The cost of a tankless is about the same as a high-quality tank heater, ignoring installation. Gas tankless
units run much hotter, often three times the BTU output of a tank unit and therefore require Category III
stainless vent. It can be very expensive (ranging from around $40 and higher for short runs). Also, it must
be kept in mind that if you are replacing a tank water heater, you will need to replace the entire venting
system.
The average savings for installing a tankless water heater are shown to be at least 20%. Studies show that
those who have a gap/lp tankless units installed save on average 25% off their prior utility costs. Those with
electric received 10-15% decrease. Most units can pay for themselves in 1-2 years.
